Backpacker's Editors' Choice Award Review

First Light Hoody - Women's - Past Season is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Warm but doesn’t seem like it will last I bought this about a month ago now and it keeps me warm very nicely but it started constantly losing small bits of stuffing after the first week so I don’t know if it will last very long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable, warm, and slim I bought this a month ago and have worn it around town, driving into the mountains, and while split-boarding. I have owned a Patagonia Ultralight down hoody for similar purposes of lightweight warmth, but I wanted something that was more breathable, would fit better under a shell, and would be more water resistant. This jacket more than fit the bill. It fit my body much better than the Patagonia Nano air hoodies do. The sleeves are longer and the shoulders are better articulated. It is comfortable for a full day in the backcountry, and works well both as a mid and outer layer depending on the conditions. My only wish: since the neck zip does go quite high on the neck, I wish the zipper garage was much larger and softer. I am 5'4" and 120lbs, 32C with an athletic build and bought a size Small

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Hoody This is really lightweight and extremely breathable. I've worn in the rain and it's fairly water resistant. I could live in this hoody everyday.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I wanted to give in more stars but... I'm a BD fan I really wanted to like this coat. There are quite a few things I like about this jacket: warmth-weight ratio is good as is packability for its category; nice fabric (feels nice and shreds moisture nicely), generally good fit (except for the sleeves -see cons below), but a few things really bug me: 1. The sleeves are too narrow for climber-swimmer shoulders. I have enough room, but barely. It's close to being ok, but overall feels a little constraining especially considering: 2. The sleeve liners pull out the end of the sleeves when I've doning this jacket over fleece. I have to carefully insert my arm, then pull the liner back toward the armpit to prevent the liner from binding up and pulling out through the wrist hole of the arm. Pretty annoying and this is my biggest compaint. 3. The hood is great for wearing over helmets BUT when I'm just walking or hiking sans helmet it is big and roomy and catches wind. It needs some sort of adjustment option. 4. I'll repeat what's been said about the zipper: it would be cool if it were two-way AND a bit more tougher.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight and Warm I like the style and warmth of this slightly fitted jacket. I would like to be able to wear it under my woolen winter dress coat for added warmth, without the hood being exposed. When I tuck the hood inside the coat, I have a 'hunch back' appearance. My suggestion would be for the manufacturer to include either a zipper or a 'collar pocket' so that the huge hood could be easily removed or stored.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and comfortable I bought this jacket about a month ago, and wear it multiple times per week for all occasions. The jacket has a great fit, the sleeves are the perfect length, and the torso fits well especially with the cinch at the bottom. I haven't used it while climbing or skiing yet due to an injury, but it has kept me warm while outside in temps down to 10/20 degrees.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight and warm Super warm while staying breathable and extremely lightweight and packable. Gave it 4 stars because the color is a more muted blue when I was hoping for a more vivid turquoise

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid midlayer I bought this jacket to replace my bulky fleece midlayer. It performs well as a midlayer for ski descents either in the backcountry or at the resort. This jacket is toasty warm, and I found myself sweating in it on a 40-degree bike commute as well as under a Gore-Tex layer while skinning on a rainy/cold day. It also functions well as an outer layer on warmer winter days (35-45 degrees). Sadly/happily, it has already become a go-to jacket for around-town use and errands, even edging out the light puffy. For reference I am 5'10", 144 lbs, 34D, and size medium works great for me.
