Hillary Gerardi did not intend to become a runner, but fell in love with moving quickly in the mountains while working at the Appalachian Mountain Club huts in New Hampshire during summers off from studies at Middlebury College. She first tried her hand at trail running in the Adirondack mountains with some success, but she was more focused on skiing and mountaineering, and set off for France with her partner Brad.

Despite her best intentions, she found a home in trail running in Alps, racing and excelling at distances from the vertical kilometer to 120 km races, and carving out a special niche in the technical, mountain Skyrunning discipline. More recently, she decided to try combining her skill sets in endurance sports with higher mountain activities.  setting the first women's record on the famous Chamonix to Zermatt Haute Route Ski Traverse in 2021, and breaking the women's record on Mont Blanc in 2023.

When she is not running, scrambling or planning adventures, she is seeking ways to combine her passion for mountain sports with action on environmental issues.

I initially got the Distance Wind Shell thinking that it would complement the other jackets in my fast and light collection, but in the end, it pretty much replaced all of them in my day-to-day use. Small and light enough to always have in your pack, and though it was made for running, I’ve found it's perfect for when I’m training or adventuring or skis as well.
