Our mid-sized ultralight ski for technical descents from the Cordillera Blanca to the Canadian Rockies, the Black Diamond Helio 95 ski balances playful, soft-snow performance with technical precision. The Helio’s pre-preg carbon fiber layup makes it extremely light for long approaches and technical ascents, but helps maintain a smooth flex and torsional stiffness for reliable, responsive skiing on the way down. Early rise in the tip and tail improves flotation and trail-breaking efficiency, and an ABS tail protector also has an integrated skin-clip tab to keep your skins secure.
  • Versatile 95-mm waist with early rise tip and tail
  • Pre-preg carbon fiber layup offers torsional stiffness and balanced flex
  • Ultralight engineered balsa flax wood core
  • 5 mm beveled ABS sidewalls
  • ABS tail protector with integrated skin-clip tab
  • Optimal use: 50% soft snow/50% hard snow

Helio 95 Carbon Ski - Fall 17 is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good choice for PNW spring volcano corn skiing I mounted shift bindings on these skis and couldn't be happier so far. They are light enough that I am wiling to climb 5k+ feet, yet robust enough to deal with variable snow on the down. In the spring corn snow they absolutely shred. At higher elevations with icy/sastrugi/variable surfaces they perform better than my lighter full carbon set up and give me confidence on sporty descents.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun to Ski I bought these with the plan to use these in the resort and start some back country touring. I was a little worried how they would perform in the resort on those less than ideal days. I was blown away how well they held an edge and turned on those cruddy icy days. They hook up great and feel very confident in the turn. Super fun ski on the powder days. I wouldn't hesitate buying another set at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent ski - even for tele :) Have used these 50 days + over the last year and they have been great performers and have been near as durable as anything else I have used. Super light, great for touring, decent float for the size, easy turning, easy to get a pretty good edge except on the most bulletproof ice. Also fine for piloting a t-bog when working. They are mounted up with Quiver Killer inserts and 22 Designs Outlaw / Lynx bindings for tele - not recommended but they have worked out great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast and light I got these for ski mountaineering in Alaska and am very impressed with how light and fast these skis are. It is very easy to break trail and very responsive on the way down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pure Touring Bliss Within ten minutes of starting any tour, I'm always reminded of how much I love these skis. They are an excellent combination of lightweight, durability and skiability. I've got at least 300 days on a pair and they are still going strong. A key aspect to understanding these skis is that they are A) a lightweight carbon ski and, B) a 100%, full-on touring ski. They are not meant as a mogul basher or resort ski, nor do they hold an edge on extremely steep, icy slopes, but then again, no 95mm carbon ski does. I've found the Helio 95 performs best in consistent conditions - powder, corn, firn snow, etc. Like all lightweight skis, they tend to get jacked around in manky conditions, but in that case something like the Route 95 is probably a better choice. But all said, when conditions are consistent, these skis deliver.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Weak overal performance At high speed it get deflected to easily. The low rise, make them vulneable for variable snow. The recomended center point (further back) is still to centered. I would recomend plus 2 from this point. Anyway a light ski, but luck of power on the downhill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great all round ski Every time i ski this i like it better. As some point out, the tip is very low cut and could be turned up just a bit but it works in all conditions. Have skied them in powder, firm, crust...they just work. Nice job design team.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light on the ups, fun turns heading down Bought these 2 months ago and ski in the pacific NW - both on piste and back country. In the area, they are great on groomers and break through crud on ungroomed areas. Turn easily - very responsive. Good dampening and no chatter, even in icier conditions. In backcountry, light weight a big plus for climbing. In deeper snow, they don't float quite as well as fatter skis - to be expected - but do just fine. An all around excellent ski and worthy for quiver of one - especially for someone like me who enjoys touring as well as turning, and doesn't seek out the steep and deep.
