Description

Description

The Zone is a two-strap Velcro shoe that combines the award-winning comfort and breathability of our Momentum climbing shoes, with the high-performance last of our Shadows to create a shoe built for sending at the gym or the crag. The Zone’s upper consist of our Engineered Knit Technology, which provides stretch where you need it, support where it matters and all around exceptional breathability-meaning you can go hard at the gym without worrying about your feet overheating. The shoe’s last is downturned and based on our aggressive shape, making the Zone adept at pulling hard on steep rock or plastic. The Zone’s sticky Fuze rubber is molded - inspired by the way we forge our carabiners - and not cut from one sheet of rubber. This is our engineered solution to optimize our shoe’s rubber and rands for consistency and comfort. The shoe’s vamp area also has printed rubber for extra friction while toe-hooking, and the medium-flex midsole adds a balance of sensitivity and power. For hard training sessions, this is the Zone you want to be in.

Fitting the Black Diamond Zone and Zone LV

  • The Zone and Zone LV are marked with US men’s
  • US women’s
  • EU sizes, and UK sizing US women’s sizes are one size larger for the same length than the US men’s size indication.
  • Ex.: US men’s 8 = US women’s 9 = EU 40.5 = UK 7
  • Refer to the Size Chart: Men's/Women's Shoes

Fit:

  1. Start with your US shoe size in either men’s or women’s. If possible, measure your foot on a Brannock device (like in a shoe store) to accurately determine the length and width of your foot.
  2. If your foot width is D or wider you should choose a Zone. If you have a C or narrower you should choose a Zone LV.
  3. For a performance fit, add .5 to your US shoe size (e.g. A US men’s 8 should get a US men’s 8.5).
  4. For a comfort fit, add 1 to your US shoe size (e.g. A US women’s 8 should get a US women’s 9).
  • Engineered Knit Technology upper provides exceptional breathability and comfort
  • 4.3mm Fuse rubber is printed and molded for superior grip, optimal consistency, and performance
  • Downturned last for steep pulling
  • Minimalist midsole for extra sensitivity on steep terrain
  • Two Velcro straps for fit adjustability - one designed extra wide for locking in an aggressive fit.
  • Regular last for regular to higher - volume feet.

Zone Climbing Shoes is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sticky and roomy Purchased these to replace my old Miura VS to climb in the gym. I tried the Shadow (not LV) and I couldn't get my feet in those. I went one full size (as per recommendation), my toes are half flexed as expected but there seems to be extra room in the front of the shoe, definitely not the slipper/support effect you get from the La Sportiva Miura/Miura VS/Katana. Maybe a bit of work on the midsole shaping/toe box is needed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good shoe, suspect quality bought this as a hard sending bouldering shoe, i’d tried a pair my friend had and really enjoyed them, so i sized down and bought a pair. so this shoe does what it’s supposed to do, it’s a stiff shoe and it edges well, it’s sticky as hell and you’ll feel super secure on tiny foot holds if you size properly. unfortunately, there is a massive air pocket in the heel which is not exactly what you want in a shoe designed for overhangs, the sizing is a little wonky so if at all possible i’d try them on in store, and despite what you’d think, you can stretch these shoes considerably if you spend enough time with them. this brings me to the quality, i spent a few weeks taking these things into the shower almost daily, spent a little while on my home training wall, and then started bringing them into the gym, every step of this was horrifically painful but these shoes did end up preforming like i needed them to if i could grit my teeth through the suffering, so i brought them along on a day of outdoor projecting, i threw maybe one or two heel hooks (not particularly extreme ones mind you) and the rubber started to peel off the heel. these will remain my hard send shoes until they’re worn out, but after that, never buying a pair again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Shoes I got these shoes for Christmas (its now August). At first they were painful to wear but i could tell they had great potential. After about two weeks they were fully broken in and comfortable to wear. I climb in these shoes 4-5 times a week, indoors and outside. I have had a lot of climbing shoes in the past but these are my overall favorite. They are flexible enough for smearing and down turned enough for steep climbs. Overall these are the only shoes I wear now, I just wish i could get some of the LV colors in the full width size.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not enough selection for larger shoe sizes I am a huge fan of the brand but I am very disappointed to see that there is a minimal selection for larger sizes with respect to moderate and aggressive climbing shoes. The Aspect and Momentum shoes are offered up to UK 14, but for individuals like myself who have larger feet (UK 13) it becomes very difficult to find a more aggressive shoe. I think it might be advantageous to offer the same selection of sizes across all your shoe models, as this would cater to customers looking to stay with the brand and transition from a moderate to a more aggressive shoe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great 1st moderate climbing shoe First things first, a word on sizing: if you have wide feet and are getting these as your first moderates, try the same size as your flats first. My flats are a size larger than my running shoes, so I initially got the same size as my street shoes. That was a mistake since I couldn't fit my feet into the pointy-er toes. But BD is awesome and handled my return fast so I was only out the money for my replacement order for about a week. No biggie. On to the shoes themselves... I got these to replace/supplement my first pair of climbing shoes. I've gotten to the point where I'm climbing steep 5.12s and my original flat-lasted shoes just weren't cutting it anymore. So far my favorite part is the sharper edge on these makes a big difference on smaller footholds. The more aggressive last helps immensely as well. If you're coming straight from flats, they'll take some getting used to so be prepared. The rubber on the last is considerably sticky than I'm used to and so I expect them to wear out faster, but it's worth the trade-off to me. All around they're a great shoe for when you're ready to advance.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor stitching and not very durable Bought these 2 months ago and have been climbing with them quite frequently (4-5 times per week). The rubber hasn't lasted very long and is already starting to fade, not surprising given the fact that it had a lot less to begin with compared to other shoes I've had in the past. The stitching/material in and around the toe box have been like sand paper and constantly irritate the tops of my toes. So much so that I have had blisters and needed to tape my toes (seriously). The heel doesn't really fit well (air pocket), unless you really tighten the straps, and the rubber is sub par and does not fair well for smearing. For the given price, these shoes under perform compared to others on the market, thus, Id recommend buying another shoe if your looking for something similar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shoe to use overall I bought this shoe in July and I loved it personally! The stiffness of the shoe is good especially when I use this shoe when it comes to projecting boulder problems. For instance, there good for small footholds when projecting a hard boulder problem. If you love to heel or toe hook, then this is the one for you as well. Another thing is that, if you are getting this shoe, then please figure out your shoe size before ordering online or buying it. Because, I wear a size 9 - 9.5 shoe and I had to size down to a size 8 for this climbing shoe which now fits perfectly! I hope this can help y'all out a bit!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best brand out there! I started with the Momentums and honestly I still love those shoes but as I have progressed I needed some more aggressive shoes and so I moved up to the Zones. I love that they are the middle ground between beginner and aggressive. Still have some flex but much more restrictive the the Momentums. If your looking for that next step this is definatly the way to go. 5 out of 5, A+ Rating. Black Diomond all day long.
