Last year, we released a film featuring one of the world’s most prolific boulderers, BD Athlete Nalle Hukkataival, battling with one of his hardest problems to date—Sleep Walker (V16). The film, made by Nelson Carayannis of Mind Frame Cinema, followed a beautiful arc of Nalle’s progression, regression, and eventual send. But at about the halfway mark, we witness Nalle traveling to South America to clear his head and explore a new zone in Argentina. Immediately, as the viewer, you’re taken by the massive blocs, vast expanse, and rugged wind-swept valley. “Where the hell is that?” we thought to ourselves? The answer is Tuzgle. Tuzgle is a climbing mecca with untapped potential. As Nalle puts it in this film, if these boulders were in the States near a Whole Foods, they would be the most popular blocs in the world. The difference, however, is that these giants sit at 14,500 feet. That means only a few intrepid seekers like Nalle and alpinist Matt Lloyd have visited this immaculate valley. Lucky for us, Nelson Carayannis captured a wealth of footage from Nalle’s trip, documenting first ascents and repeats of Tuzgle’s classic lines. Enjoy this film and get psyched for the fall bouldering season.
