Description

If trekking poles are a mountain runner’s “samurai swords,” then the Black Diamond Distance Carbon is the Hattori Hanzo edition. Designed in collaboration with BD Athlete Joe Grant, the fixed-length Distance Carbon weighs in at only 95 grams per pole (120 cm), making it the lightest pole we’ve ever produced. The touch-points are minimal, though carefully placed, such as the subtle mid-shaft ring for balance and grip while carrying the pole horizontally. The slimmed Distance Grip consists of an ultralight, durable EVA foam, and the tip has been completely redesigned to a lower profile that also accepts z-pole snow baskets. Simply put, these poles are engineered to go fast, whether you’re 10 hours into an ultra, or linking peaks in fast and light style.

  • 100% carbon fiber shafts
  • Fixed length construction
  • Incredibly lightweight running pole: 95 grams/pole (120cm)
  • Lightweight EVA foam grip and minimal grip extension with breathable, moisture-wicking strap
  • Mid-shaft ring for horizontal carrying balance and grip
  • Interchangeable tech tip compatible with rubber tech tips included
  • Z-Pole Snow Basket compatible

Pro Tip: Joe Grant On The Distance Carbon Z Trekking Pole

BLACK DIAMOND PRESENTS: RHYTHM

BD ATHLETE JOE GRANT DISCUSSES CARBON DISTANCE Z

Distance Carbon Running Poles is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from My old Distance Carbon Z-Poles almost feel heavy! These were the poles I’d always wanted: One piece, in theory, should be lighter, stiffer, stronger. The grips have evolved slightly: They’re a bit more tapered and the lower “pommel” or “trigger” is a bit more subtle (you can’t quite get as much leverage but it is adequate). Time will tell if they are durable enough. Would get 5 stars if there was less packaging (a problem with all BD stuff) and if they came with carbide tips (do people really use the rubber tips??).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great running pole! I’ve had it on many runs! Light and solid! Great fixed running pole!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Featherlight and functional In short, these are extremely functional poles, and weigh next to nothing. Others have already hit on this. If you don't need your poles to collapse, take a hard look at these. If you've used the Distance Carbon Z poles, then you've basically tried these, which are nearly identical, except a) they don't collapse and b) the shaft diameter is slightly smaller (perhaps by 1 mm). The grips and straps are identical to the Distance Carbon Z. The narrower shaft implies slightly reduced stiffness and strength compared to the Distance Carbon Z. Whether or not this is a meaningful, I cannot say--but these seemed sufficiently stiff to me. These are ridiculously light, weighing in at 6.73 oz (190.8 g) for a pair in 125 cm length, including the carbide tips (and omitting the rubber tips). That's around 4 oz lighter than the Distance Carbon Z. I've used these on a number of longer on-trail hike/runs, and have zero complaints--they're poles, they work, they have robust grips and straps, and they are super light. 'Nuff said. We'll see about durability--but for now, five stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight is an understatement! The Distance Carbon Running Pole rounds out the Distance Running pole family by adding an ultra-light fixed length pole to the quiver. This pole is crazy light, sometimes I forget that I have anything in my hands! The benefit of having a light fixed-length pole, is that you can deploy them into action whenever you want. Whether its a short punchy climb or a long grinding slog up the side of a mountain, the Distance Carbon Pole comes to the rescue and gets you up the hill. When you are ready to descend, grab the poles by the handy balance ring and fly down. Since the pole are already in your hands, they will be ready for your next climb. Sometimes I will hold both poles in one hand on flatter sections or one in each hand ready for the next hill. The Distance Carbon Pole is great for many scenarios. 1): Thru-hikes or FKT style outings where you want to move light and fast but want to use poles 2): This pole is applicable in many race situations. Vertical Kilometer racing come to mind. 100 mile races such as Hard Rock 100 or UTMB. 3): Running in the mountains in Winter. Add on the Z-pole baskets (sold separately) and you have the perfect stabilizer to get you up and down your backyard hills.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Featherweight These things are light. So light that they make you scared. But after putting a grip of miles on them, I'm convinced. They're simply amazing if you're really trying to shave every gram possible. However, make sure you get the carbide tips. The ones that come with these poles aren't great for hard ground or icy conditions.
