Rated 5 out of 5 by Jack from Awesome shovel This is my first avalanche shovel i have owned, i did some research and found this one! This shovel is pretty light and is grippy even when wearing gloves it is quick to deploy in any situation even if you are just building jumps in the backcountry. If you need a new shovel i recommend you buy this one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Doug from Standard equipment I oversaw a mountaineering program through the boy scouts for 10 years that included multi-day backcountry expeditions and alpine climbing on all of the cascade volcanoes. We used this shovel exclusively. It packs well inside or outside your pack and it moves a lot of snow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by StuJ from excellent for snow safety and all around use I've used my shovel for work (PC ski patrol) for several years. We beat the snot out of our gear and these shovels take it. This shovel has a flat blade that helps make smooth walled snow pits. This shovel is great for digging like heck for avalanche drills. I typically carry my shovel disassembled but the rectangle shape of the handle makes for easy assembly even in stressful situations. The extendable handle and well sized blade allow for efficient, rapid digging, chopping and paddling. This shovel has come in handy many times when digging cars out of ditches too. As with any light weight shovel it does not do well with wet slide debris (you need steel for that). If you sharpen up the cutting edge a bit it works better in wet slide debris and cutting through thick rain crust.

Rated 3 out of 5 by acs1 from Not Packable Super disappointed in the packability of this shovel. Got it as part of the PIEPS Sport kit, but the second I pulled it out of the box I realized there was no way it would fit in my pack without being disassembled. Having fought with shovels plenty of times in the past, I've realized that separating the pieces makes me much slower in case of an actual emergency and is also just plain annoying. Despite using a pretty tall, accommodating pack this shovel is no where close to fitting. Will be buying a replacement unfortunately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Aaron from Lots of shovel I bought a few of these, one for each car. They store small, extend easily and shovel snow like they should. Super happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ethan from Strong and lightweight This shovel is awesome! I work search and rescue in Northern Arizona and when it snows here it’s the thick and heavy stuff. With that being said this shovel has no problem with it. I have found myself digging out cars with it for hours and it works great while still being somewhat comfortable!
