WHY ACTIVE suspension?

WHY ACTIVE suspension?

Black Diamond packs built with our award-winning active suspension systems—ergoACTIV, ergoACTIV XP, reACTIV and reACTIV XP—are unparalleled in comfort, efficiency and load transfer. Because the shoulder straps and hipbelt move with you, friction and hot spots are eliminated. The pack’s load stays perfectly balanced at all times—without adjustment—and allows your body to move naturally in any direction. This results in a more efficient, comfortable, longer stride—meaning you can cover more ground, more quickly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good backback, but... I purchased this last spring and had only used it on one ski-mountaineering trip on Lyngen, Norway at beginning of May. Due lack of snow, we needed to approach by walking and therefore carry skis on couple of times. On first day and after very first approach, I noticed that there was a worn-out hole (sized of two euro coin) on side of my backpack made by ski's edge. While approaching and carrying skis, I did not notice any attachment issues - skis were pretty tight fastened and pack felt good and pretty stable to carry. I understand that this bag is designed and "categorized" as climbing back and not for ski touring, but still I think that it should be able to carry lightweight touring-skis without any issues and therefore work as good "overall alpine workhorse" backpack. As a long time BD fan I'm planning to purchase lighter BD back (i.e. speed or speed zip) for next season, but now I'm a bit worried of durability issues - rugged material vs lightness However, I really like overall design and features of this pack: top-loader with zipper on side, crampon pocket, ice-axe attachments and generally backpacks narrow "alpine-style" profile. It's all really good, classic and proven to work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super happy I used the speed 30 for 2 years guiding around 200 days a year and playing on most of the other days it was the best pack that I've ever had and I'm sure I will say the same about the mission 35 in two years I just needed a little bit more space

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fit - extremely comfortable Guiding and carrying approximately 45lbs of gear isn't pleasurable without the right pack. I've climbed about 20 days in this pack so far and I won't consider using anything else. I'm 5'4 and it fits perfectly, the swing arms make it seem much lighter than it actually is because it's very balanced. Great compartments for gear and rope. The only thing I would change (and it isn't all that important) is having a sleeve for my H2O bladder's water tube to insulate it better and keep it more out of the way.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Functional Back, Hard Shoulder Straps Plus, super functional pack and hour glass pad in back is a big improvement to vent heat to the sides and top from previous BD packs. Minus, We own the Mission 75 and the Mission 35. Wish the softer, thicker shoulder straps on the 75 were on the 35 also. The 35 has smaller harder padded shoulder straps. In the summer wearing a t-shirt, after an hour or two of carrying 25 pounds your shoulders and upper back start to ache. It is actually easier to carry 35 pounds in the Mission 75 than 25 pounds in the Mission 35. In the winter with jackets and fleece it should not be a problem. I would give it 4-5 stars but your shoulders are killing you in the summer on long approaches. Short approaches no problem.
